Voluntourisim and Volunteering

Gap Year Students and Volunteers mainly differentiate themselves by the period of time spent with us. We respect everybody who wants to have a positive influence to our world and environment.

Volunteering is rather the short stay integration we find within the shorter holiday period some people only have available, and very often it involves tailor making to specific small group requests and their specific interests too. Individual enquiries with no agenda other than wishing to help are afforded the opportunity of joining existing groups or social development projects in the Kurland village area.

A minimum stay of 2 weeks is recommended. Accommodation is at one of the existing establishments according to your budget. Volunteering with a difference.

True Voluntourism, we combine as an overland safari with interaction in various communities in neighbouring countries lending a helping hand at their villages with materials and your labour. We get to enjoy a social interaction in the villages and experience some very rural living conditions. Our vehicle is a 13-seater overland truck fully equipped with camping and survival gear. We travel on safari past the ocean and mountains, desert and forests, through game reserves, National Parks and wilderness areas meeting a diversity of cultures and people.

We share and learn knowledge daily on different sciences within the Field Guides Association curriculum, from mammal Ethology, bird, reptile and plant identification, geology covering soils and grasses, medicinal and edible plants, basic survival knowledge and understanding of the ecology, and the inter-relationship of the ecosystem.

Our outings will take you out of your comfort space and question your understanding of the environment and your fragile ability to survive in a wilderness situation. A degree of fitness is required but most of all an open mind and a good pair of hiking boots.

We explore old San rock art caves and look for medicinal plants and learn some basic survival skills. We are privileged in this part of the world to be able to experience rock art dating between 6 000 - 70 000 years of age and many stone age sites stretching from the coastal region to the interior.

Adventure Tourism packages are tailor made on request for small groups. If you are in this area or wish to visit the Garden Route and experience what's available, drop us a message and we can assist and add to your itinerary with as much action as you can pack in!  We do not handle car hire but will arrange your transport if required.
