BSIDP is the social responsibility initiative of Academia Naturalis and the Garden Route Natural Science Research Facility, with the aim to assist our local community, and particularly the unemployed with a variety of informal skills training and networking opportunities instilling new ideas and creative thinking from building low cost natural durable homes using renewable resources and power, soup kitchens and material assistance.

Our Constitution…

  • The integration of public and private corporate social responsibilities through Local Economic Development programmes teaching in-formal skills that are easily converted into entrepreneurship projects and job creation opportunities.
  • Our Core Focus is to facilitate the opportunity for Volunteer and Gap Year students to participate in Local Economic Development projects mentoring courses requested by the local community as being subjects of interest.
  • These skills projects are designed around Team building exercises and promoting networking and interacting as a group through a shared desire of learning a particular course and skill pertinent to the individual’s interest.
  • To assist local Government, in their Economic Development Programmes and plans for the future. We promote unity with a voice of “Ubuntu” without affiliation to any specific cultural or political group or agenda, striving only to enhance the living standards of all South Africans.

Programmes are designed for the gap year and career break volunteer, where we combine a variety of skills chosen to benefit both the volunteer and the local institution/s in a synergy of mutual gain. Working to uplift our local communities, through exposure to you the participant, and your customs, expertise, knowledge and selfless desire to help out.
